Case study
A virtual venue for
a research forum.
Virtual event platform hosted by Sigma Xi, featuring presentations from top student researchers, keynote speakers, and panel discussions.
The problem
Sigma Xi needed one virtual venue for its research forum — student researcher presentations, keynote speakers, and panel discussions — rather than stitching together separate webinar and registration tools for each format.
The constraints
- Three distinct content formats in one event — live presentations, keynotes, and panels — rather than the single registration flow the platform's other clients needed.
- Built on the same underlying ProjectBoard platform as ProjectBoard's other education clients, so IFORE's format-specific needs couldn't come at the cost of what those clients depended on.
The decisions
IFORE runs on a newer slice of the platform stack — Nuxt.js, Pinia, and Tailwind CSS — rather than the Vuex and Bulma CSS the other ProjectBoard education clients share, built to suit a content-heavy event format instead of a pure registration form. Reused the platform's existing Algolia search and Cypress coverage rather than building bespoke event tooling from scratch.
What shipped
The IFORE 2025 event platform, live at events.projectboard.world/ifore2025.
What's changed
IFORE 2025 ran on this platform as scheduled — all three formats, presentations, keynotes, and panels, live in one venue instead of stitched-together webinar tools.
